📖 What is Book Swap Squad?

Book Swap Squad is a community platform built for kids in schools and neighborhoods to share the books they love. Instead of books sitting on shelves gathering dust, you can list them here and lend them to other kids nearby — and borrow amazing books in return!

The whole system runs on our fun digital currency called BSC (Book Swap Coins). You earn BSC by sharing your books and writing reviews, and you spend a small amount to borrow books from others. It's a win-win for everyone!

🚀 How It Works

Step 1: Sign Up — Create your free account with your name, school, and a parent's phone number. You'll verify your email and get a unique 8-character ID code (your UID).

Step 2: Publish Your Books — Add books you'd like to share. Take a photo of the book with your UID code next to it to prove you own it. Write a review to earn bonus coins!

Step 3: Search & Borrow — Find books from kids near you. When you find one you want, "block" it (reserve it for 2 days) and message the owner to arrange a meetup.

Step 4: Swap & Enjoy! — Once you pick up the book, the owner confirms the handover. Read it, enjoy it, and return it within 7 days. You can both rate each other afterward!

Book Swap Squad is designed with kids' safety in mind. Here's how we keep things friendly:

Family-Friendly Content: Every text field on the site — book names, reviews, messages, profile info — is checked by our content filter to make sure everything stays appropriate. We catch bad words, creative spellings, and sneaky letter substitutions.

Moderated Messaging: Private messages between kids are monitored. Any message that contains inappropriate content gets flagged and hidden automatically.

Verified Accounts: Every account requires email verification before it becomes active. We also collect a parent or guardian's contact number during registration.

Book Verification: Kids must photograph each book alongside their unique ID code. This ensures they actually own the books they list.

After every book swap, both the borrower and the owner can rate each other on a 5-star scale. This builds trust within the community and helps everyone know who the most reliable swappers are!

You can also write personal reviews when you publish your books. Tell other kids what the book is about, what you loved (or didn't love), and why they should read it. Book reviews earn you extra BSC too!

Book Swap Squad was created by Aarav Jain, a 7th grader who loves reading books. As someone who's always got a stack of books on his desk, Aarav noticed that many of his friends had amazing books sitting on their shelves that they'd already finished — while other kids were looking for something new to read. That's when the idea hit: what if there was a simple way for kids to swap books with each other?

What started as a simple idea turned into a full-fledged platform — complete with user accounts, a digital currency system, book verification with smart image scanning, private messaging, ratings, and a full admin panel. Pretty cool for a school project, right?

🤖 Built with Vibe Coding & Claude AI

Here's the really exciting part — Aarav built this entire website using vibe coding with Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic. Instead of writing every single line of code by hand, Aarav described what he wanted the website to do, and Claude helped turn those ideas into real, working code.

From designing the database to building the search system, from creating the BSC coin economy to adding the smart UID photo scanner — every feature was built through a conversation. Aarav would explain what he had in mind, Claude would write the code, and together they'd test it, fix bugs, and make it better.

The whole experience has been absolutely amazing. What would normally take a team of developers weeks or months to build was brought to life through the power of AI-assisted coding. It showed that with a great idea and the right tools, even a 7th grader can build something real and meaningful that helps their community.
