📖 What is Book Swap Squad?

Book Swap Squad is a community platform built for kids in schools and neighborhoods to share the books they love. Instead of books sitting on shelves gathering dust, you can list them here and lend them to other kids nearby — and borrow amazing books in return!

The whole system runs on our fun digital currency called BSC (Book Swap Coins). You earn BSC by sharing your books and writing reviews, and you spend a small amount to borrow books from others. It's a win-win for everyone!

On top of swapping, there's a whole layer of fun stuff to unlock — badges, reading streaks, an avatar shop, a book collection, and small squads you can build with friends. Keep reading for the full rundown!

🚀 How It Works

Step 1: Sign Up — Create your free account with your name, school, and a parent's phone number. You'll verify your email and get a unique 8-character ID code (your UID).

Step 2: Publish Your Books — Add books you'd like to share. Take a photo of the book with your UID code next to it to prove you own it. Write a review to earn bonus coins!

Step 3: Search & Borrow — Find books from kids near you. When you find one you want, "block" it (reserve it for 2 days) and message the owner to arrange a meetup.

Step 4: Swap & Enjoy! — Once you pick up the book, the owner confirms the handover. Read it, enjoy it, and return it within 7 days. You can both rate each other afterward!

🔥 Reading Streaks: Publish a book, write a review, or earn income from lending on consecutive days to build a streak — shown right on your dashboard.

🛍️ Avatar Shop: Spend BSC you've earned on brand-new avatar emoji — from a turtle to a rocket to a crown. Pick your look on your profile page.

🎴 My Book Collection: Every book you finish swapping gets saved as a trading card on your profile — cover, genre, and the rating you gave it, all in one shelf.

❤️ Wishlist: Add books you're hoping to find to your wishlist, and we'll show you as soon as a match becomes available to borrow.

🎁 Mystery Swap: Feeling adventurous? Hit "Mystery Swap" on the search page and we'll block a random available book for you — a surprise read every time.

👥 Reading Squads: Team up with friends in a small squad — invite-only by a shared join code, no searching for strangers. Track a shared monthly swap challenge and see who in your squad is reading the most.

🛡️ Safety First

Book Swap Squad is designed with kids' safety in mind. Here's how we keep things friendly:

Family-Friendly Content: Every text field on the site — book names, reviews, messages, profile info — is checked by our content filter to make sure everything stays appropriate. We catch bad words, creative spellings, and sneaky letter substitutions.

Moderated Messaging: Private messages between kids are monitored. Any message that contains inappropriate content gets flagged and hidden automatically.

Verified Accounts: Every account requires email verification before it becomes active. We also collect a parent or guardian's contact number during registration.

Book Verification: Kids must photograph each book alongside their unique ID code. This ensures they actually own the books they list.

Invite-Only Squads: Reading Squads never let you search for or add strangers — you can only join with a code shared directly by a friend, and there's no chat inside a squad, just a shared leaderboard.

⭐ Rating & Reviews

After every book swap, both the borrower and the owner can rate each other on a 5-star scale. This builds trust within the community and helps everyone know who the most reliable swappers are!

You can also write personal reviews when you publish your books. Tell other kids what the book is about, what you loved (or didn't love), and why they should read it. Book reviews earn you extra BSC too!

Hi, I'm Aarav! I'm in 7th grade and I love reading — like, a lot. I always have a huge stack of books on my desk, and I noticed a lot of my friends had books they'd already finished just sitting on their shelves, while other kids were looking for something new to read. So I started thinking... what if there was an easy way for kids to just swap books with each other?

That's basically how Book Swap Squad started. What began as a pretty simple idea turned into this whole platform — with user accounts, a digital currency system, book verification with smart image scanning, private messaging, ratings, and even a full admin panel. Honestly I still can't fully believe I built all that. Pretty cool for a school project, right?

🤖 Built with Vibe Coding & Claude AI

Okay, here's the part I'm most excited to tell you about — I built this whole website using something called vibe coding, with an AI called Claude (made by a company called Anthropic). I didn't write every single line of code myself. I just told Claude what I wanted the website to do, and it helped turn my ideas into real, working code.

Seriously, everything — designing the database, building the search feature, figuring out the whole BSC coin system, even the smart photo scanner that checks your book's UID code — all of it happened through me just talking it through. I'd explain what I had in mind, Claude would write the code, and then we'd test it together, find bugs, and keep making it better.

Honestly the whole thing has been amazing. Stuff that would normally take a whole team of developers weeks or months, I got to build way faster, just because I had a good idea and the right tool to help me build it. It showed me that even as a 7th grader, I could actually build something real that people use.
